Professional Development Units will be available for this event. Libraries are a vital place for informal science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education for pre-K- 12th-grade students and their families.  This session of Teacher Tuesday will highlight STEAM programming from several libraries.  Come learn how libraries are reaching out to youth and families in formal and informal education settings.  This session is great for other library staff, as well as for teachers and afterschool programmers looking to partner with libraries. 4G STEM Camp

4G STEM Camp introduces girls entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grade to careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The camp includes 5 days of hands-on activities, lab experiments, and field trips to area businesses offering STEM-related careers. The 2018 camp meets at Bradley University and includes tours in Peoria to JUMP Simulation, Advanced Medical Transport, Caterpillar, and CSE Software plus a day in Havana to Therkildsen Field Station at Emiquon, University of Illinois-Springfield and The Nature Conservancy in Illinois. STEM Academy

STEM Academy

The third annual STEM Academy is an amazing week-long experience sponsored by Pearl Technology, Richwoods Township and University of Illinois Extension, Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Unit. This year's camp will engage youth in learning about space and radio communication. Youth will build Rasberry Pi computers that stream live video from the International Space Station (ISS). Youth will also participate in a High Altitude Balloon launch and use radio telemetry to track the balloon to near-space.The highlight of the STEM Academy will be that students will be able to communicate directly with an astronaut on the ISS. Whittier Primary School Wins STEM Grant

Whittier Primary School is one of 25 schools statewide that have been awarded participation in the state’s three-year Bicentennial STEM Fusion Program. The program overseen by the Illinois Math and Science Academy is a teacher development initiative for math and science. It focuses on teachers and students in grades four through eight to stimulate careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
