4G STEM Camp – Teachers Track

4G STEM Camp (Girls + Games + Gadgets = Genius) is aimed at overcoming barriers for girls interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Partners include University of Illinois Extension Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Unit, Bradley University Center for STEM Education, and Greater Peoria EDC. The camp is designed around visits to area STEM sites (Farnsworth Group, Unity Point, Advanced Medical Transport, Precision Planting/Integris, Illinois American Water, Therkildsen Field Station at Emiquon, University of Illinois-Springfield and The Nature Conservancy in Illinois). Successful women working in STEAM careers provide an orientation to their work, including the skills, technologies, and strategies used to excel in their jobs.
We are accepting up to 5 area teachers for participation in this weeklong camp. Teachers would be involved in group facilitation during the camp and would also be asked to reflect on the experience and how he or she could use similar type programming to enhance their classroom experiences.
If selected, teachers would be asked to attend an orientation session, the weeklong camp (which includes a workshop session with Bradley faculty), along with two follow-up sessions after the camp experience as they are implementing something they learned from the opportunity.

In addition to 40 hours of continuing education credits, teachers will be paid a stipend for their participation in the camp.
There is an additional option for teachers who cannot do the whole week of camp, we are inviting 5 additional teachers to attend one host site visit during the week, plus the teacher training activities on Friday at Bradley University. These teachers would receive 16 hours of continuing education and a stipend for participation. Teachers would complete a reflection on their participation and an action plan for how to incorporate STEM career exploration activities into their classroom.
Applications for participation in the program will be considered through May 1, 2019.
